After following a number of other professions Nicolaas
Anslijn (Mai 12, 1777 in Leiden - September 18, 1838 in Alkmaar)
became a teacher in 1804 in a school for the poor in Amsterdam.
In 1807 he was appointed head teacher in a school in Haarlem.
Then from 1819 he served as a house teacher. He published
several books to encourage reading.
