Museum Gaspar - Silver cup

The Institut Archeology of Luxembourg – Museum Gaspar is situated in the street Martyrs 16, Aarlon. Museum Gaspar (Musée Gaspar) is set up in the house of the Aarlon family Gaspar and accomodates also the paintings of the artist Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931), collections of furnishings, beautiful paintings, sculptures, three decades of pottery and jewels of decorative forged art from Antwerp. Underneath the usual exhibits there are often temporary exhibitions.

We found the Divine Name on a silver cup from the year 1711. It’s a cup with an explicit religious character. The cup, from German origin, has a nice engraved picture and a text. The text: "P.B.V.D.M / I. HERSTAT / C. HERSTAT / D.E.S.F. / MDCCXI "DER . BECHER . DES . SEGENS . DEN . WIR . SEGNEN . IST . ER . NICT . DIE . GEMEINSCHAFT . DES . BLUTS . CHRISTI . I.COR . X . 16 / DEN . HEILSAMEN . BECHER . WILL . ICH . NEHMEN . UND . DEN . NAHMEN . IEHOVAE . WILL . ICH . NENNEN . PSALM . CXVI . 13" . (Translation: ‘The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? – 1 Kor. 10:16’ / ‘I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name IEHOVAE – Psalm 116:13’)
