| Lodewijk Dosfel was born
at Dendermonde on March 15, 1881. He studied law at Leuven and
graduated in 1901, he became a lawyer. In 1916 he accepted a
chair at the university of Gent and at that time changed to
the Dutch language. Because of his activism he was given a criminal
conviction after the war, but received a pardon in the same
year. After this time his only source of income was his writings.
He also published works using pseudonyms, for example Godfried
Hermans and Thomas Van der Schelden. He died at Dendermonde
on December 27, 1925, at 44 years old.
