Antony Christiaan Wynandt Staring was the only son of
Damiaan Hugo Staring, Seaman (Captain) at 'Kaap de Goede Hoop'
and his wife E.W. Verhuell. Antony was born in Gendringen
on January 24, 1767. When he was six years old, he became
under the guardianship of his uncle Jacob Gerard Staring,
who had received acclaim as a writer of a Biblical dictionary,
Antony graduaded as a Doctor in law and after an additional
two years studying Geography, he settled on his father's country
property, called 'de Wildenborch', which now belongs to Vorden
town. He married in the year 1791 to Lady E. M. Van Löben
- Sels. A year later she gave birth to a son, but shortly
after the child died. Two years later she also died, just
a day after the death of Antony's mother. In the year 1798
he married for the second time, with Lady J. A. C. Van der
Muelen. Together they had 4 sons and 4 daughters.
It is remarkable that by the age of 19 he had already
published a collection of his poems. After this collection,
many more followed. He was not always appreciated during his
life but after his death his poems were considered to be very
valuable. He died on August 18, 1840, at the age 73..
