City: The "Marktgemeinde"
or Market-village Paternion is located in the South of Austria,
in the state of Kärnten, about 18 km away from Villach.
The term "Marktgemeinde", like the name suggests,
has everything to do with Markets and Market-right. In the
Middle Ages some villages received the right to have a market.
With this right came a certain social status. The villages
are still proud of the title "Marktgemeinde". Paternion
has about 6000 inhabitants.
