Vienna - Votivkirche

City: Vienna is the capital of Austria. The city, located in the North-East of the country, lies on the river Danube. There are approximately 1.697.982 inhabitants. For many years Vienna was the Imperial capital and residence of the Habsburgers. Because of its place on the World Heritage list the historical city centre of Vienna has ensured its reputation as a cultural site. Many old beautiful buildings, castles (Palast Hofburg, Schloss Schönbrunn and Schloss Belvedere), museums, parks, statues, theatres, operas, music shows and much much more attract many tourist annually.

 

Building: the Votiv Church in Vienna is considered to be one of the most important examples of early Gothic architecture. The word 'Votivgabe' means 'thank you present'. The church was built after the unsuccessful attack on Emperor Franz Joseph. The first stone was laid down on April 24, 1856.

God's name can be clearly seen as the tetragrammaton. Note the Masoretic vowels: e (two dots beneath the J), o (a dot on top of the W) and an a (as a stripe and a dot beneath the W). The pronunciation here is 'Jehowah' or 'Jehovah'.
