Antwerp - St. Andrieskerk

City: According the city's Web Antwerp is" just what you would want from a city: welcoming and unsophisticated, but also lively and cosmopolitan; a city to to live in and blessed with beautiful architecture, fancy stores, impressive monuments, jazz clubs, soulful works of art ...". Antwerp is establishing itself as a Belgian city full of history and culture. Its history, amongst other things, can be found in many old buildings including this church.

 

Building: St. Andrieskerk

The founders of the church were the Augustin monks in the early days of the 16th century. Because of their sympathy with their protesting fellow order brother Martin Luther, they were exiled by the authorities. Margaretha from Austria wanted to preserve their buillding efforts. It was her wish that the building was to be used as a parish church. To show their gratitude the parish took as St Andries as their patron saint,, the patron saint of the House of Bourgondie.

Object: On the high altar the Divine Name is written in Hebrew.
