Antwerp - Kapel Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Goed Succes

City: Each’ Sinjoor’ will say that Antwerp is an outstanding global city. The nickname ‘Sinjoor’ for the inhabitants of Antwerp dates back from the time of the Spanish Inquisition. It is derived from the Spanish word señor (Sir). This confirms that Antwerp's history goes back a long way. It was during the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648) that Antwerp was transformed from a small town to the biggest city in the Seventeen Provinces (Habsburger Netherlands). Antwerp today has 472,071 inhabitants (2008). Antwerp has a firm reputation for fashion, diamonds and as a world port.

Building: Chapel of our Lady of Good Success

This chapel is part of the church of St. Antonius, which we also show on the website. It should be noted that this chapel has its own entrance onto the street. It is for this reason that we show the chapel as a separate item. The church of St. Antonius was built in 1910 from plans by Louis Baeckelmans. The style is neo-Gothic. The chapel is architecturally described as: low point façade with above the door a profiled ogive - I don't know what this is? with mosaic; side facade with rose window.

Object: in the chapel there are three medallions with the busts of three people inside them. In the middle is Jesus. On the person on the left, at eye level, is a radiant triangle including God's name as the tetragrammaton. The word tetragrammaton comes from the Greek language and means literally "four letters '. The letters here are a representation for the name of God JHWH.
