Brussels - Memorial Plate

City: Brussels is the capital of Belgium. It is also the administrative centre of Europe. Brussels was founded around a castle on an island in the Zenne. This was in the 10th century. In 1229, the city received its city rights from Duke Henry I, Duke of Brabant. The city of Brussels counts today 148,873 inhabitants (2008). Often, however, is the Brussels-capital region seen as city. There is the population 1,080,790 (nov 2008).

Object: Memorial plate, De Lenglentierstraat - Rue de Lenglentier.

In the above mentioned street is a memorial plate. On the plate is written (translated): "In remembrance of the Jews of the Marolle district - victims of Nazism and racialism".

On the plate is a text quoted from the Bible, "Ez. XXXVII, 13-14" (Ezekiel 37: 13-14).

"Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.' " - (New International Version).

Please notice that on the three places where the New Internal Version writes LORD, on this plate God's name is written as the tetragrammaton. On the picture here below those three places are indicated.
