Evergem - St. Christoffelkerk

City: Evergem is a municipality in the province of East Flanders, 7 km north-west of Ghent. It is located on the important sea Canal Ghent-Terneuzen, a canal which runs between 2 famous cities, Ghent and Bruges. The country region which has typical natural attributes is called 'Meetjesland. " There are 32,545 people living here (01/01/2008).

 

Building: St. Christoffelkerk

In the year 1783 the former church was complete destroyed by fire. The first brick of the present church was laid on April 20, 1785. The church is build from a design from Frans Drieghe. In 1918 the church was almost completely destroyed by war damage. The rebuilding, under the guidance of architect A. Poppe took 9 years.

 

Object: Inside the church is a beautiful pulpit with a golden plaque on which the Hebrew Tetragrammaton - the four consonants 'JHWH' representing the Divine Name - can be seen.
