Froyennes (Tournai) - église Saint-Eloi

City: The history of Tournai goes back a long way. The city, one of the oldest in Belgium, existed during Roman times. During the reign of the Frankish Kings Childebert and Clovis Tournai was the capital of the Frankish Empire. Nowadays Tournai includes, in addition to the town centre, 29 municipalities including Froyennes. Froyennes has also existed for a long time. In the Roman times there was a Roman villa here. The first time that Froyennes as village is mentioned was in a papal letter of the 10th century.

Today the village profiles itself as being attractive in the field of culture, sports, leisure and as a recreation area for young families. The territory extends over 550 ha and has 2,300 inhabitants.

Building: église Saint-Eloi.

This church was built in 1840. The church was named after the water-source Saint-Eloi which feeds two ponds behind the church.

Object: God's name can be found here on the altar of the church. Instead of the tetragrammaton, as is more common, here it is written as YHVH.
