Gentbrugge - HH. Simon en Judas-Thaddeuskerk

City: Gentbrugge is a part-municipality of Ghent. In this place, located on the Scheldt, there are about 20,317 people in residence. In ancient times Gentbrugge was located on an important Roman road to Bavay. Today the motorway E17 (Antwerp-Ghent) runs through the territory.

Building: HH. Simon en Judas-Thaddeuskerk

At the Gentbruggeplein (from ca. 1875) you can see the Church HH. Simon en Judas-Thaddeus. The church is constructed in neogothic style. The church with his western tower (1868-1872) was designed by architect De Noyette.

Object: in relation to the Divine Name we notice the following image...

On the left side is written: "FOEDERIS ARCA'- which is Latin for: "the Ark of Convenant"
On the right side is written: "JANVA COELI" - this means: "Door to Heaven"

In the middle of the door, in a triangle, the Divine Name is written but unlike the usual method of using the four consonants of the Tetragrammaton, only three are used: "JHW".
