Grimbergen - Abbey church

City: 'Pearl of Brabant " - this is the name that Grimbergen bears together with the municipality of Heeze. Grimbergen is a municipality in the province of Flemish - Brabant. On this site a castle was built in the 8th-9th century. It is probable that this was built by the Lords of Berhouts, Berhouts, a old family of knights. Around the castle residential homes were constructed. The website of the municipality of Grimbergen says: "in addition to fine residential areas Grimbergen has picturesque areas and beautiful buildings, which attest to a rich and prosperous past."

Building: Abbey church

The Abbey was founded between 1126 and 1128 by the Berthouts, Lords of Mechelen and Grimbergen. In 1132 the Abbey church was inaugerated by Bishop Liethardus van Kamerijk. The first Norbertinian monks probably originated from the Abbey of Prémontré.
