City: Few towns in Flanders appeal to the imagination more than this haven for students, where history, culture, architecture, gastronomy and modern science are intermingled to form a compelling cocktail. Leuven is not only centuries old, it is also very alive! – the description on the Internet site of Leuven, situated in the province of Flemish - Brabant, numbers 92,704 inhabitants. It is clear that Leuven takes pride in its historical heritage and history.

Building: Voormalige Armenschool (Former School for the Poor)

In the Naamsestraat is a medallion which immediately draws our attention. The medallion can be seen on the outer wall of the former school for the poor of St. Kwinten. This building has a long history. The school for the poor was built besides a building from 1546. An institution for the relief of the poor, called ‘the table for the Holy Spirit" was accommodated here. The poorest inhabitants could come here for food, a pair of shoes, clothes...

Object: Inside a medallion dated 1537 God's name is written in Hebrew. An accompanying plaque giving information about the medallion also has 'Jahwe' written on it.
