City: "Where the three swirling
Nethen are laying a silver knot, where all of a sudden the
belly fat, abundant Brabant separates from the musing, skinny
Campine, there it is"- this was written by Felix Timmermans
about his birth place Lier. (He is referring to the three
rivers which converge at this point).
Lier is a city in the province of Antwerp. It is a city
giving evidence of a rich past. The béguinage (courtyard
and outhouses) of Lier and the bell tower were placed on the
prestigious World Heritage List of the UNESCO at the end of
the 20th century. Other tourism attractions are the Zimmer
Tower, the city-canals, the City Hall, the Prisoners port,
