Liège - St. Barthélemykerk

City: Liège is the capital of the Belgian province with the same name. This city is situated on the river Meuse that flows through the city from south to north. Liège was, until the middle of the last century, the centre of the mining and steel industry. The beauty of Liège lies in the land surrounding the Meuse River, the hills, the forests, the land relief, the museums and the haute cuisine.

 

Building: St. Barthélemykerk

The Saint Barthélemy church is located on Place Saint- Barthélemy. Like many churches this church has been built and rebuilt many times during the course of its history. This church is very old. It was first established during the reign of Prins-bishop Balderic (1008-1018). The eastern part dates from the 11th century. The cross nave and massive font date from the 12th century. The church is described as "a valuable witness of Romanesque style combined with the style of the Rhine and Meus country.
