Mechelen - Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Hanswijkkerk

The old Mechelen used to be surrounded by a town wall. Immediately outside the wall were different suburbs. Hanswijk was one of those old suburbs. Today the area belongs to the town area of Mechelen.

The baroque church - now a basilica - was built between 1663 and 1681, to the plan of architect Lucas Fayd'herbe. In fact Lucas Fayd'herbe a renowned sculptor was a student of Rubens.

 

Object: God’s name is to be observed twice in the church, engraved on two impressive confessionals.
