Ruiselede - Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ten-Hemelopnemingkerk

City: Ruiselede is a municipality in the province of West-Flanders (Belgium). The municipality numbers more than 5,000 inhabitants. The first time that Ruiselede is mentioned as a place was in a document of the year 1106 (where it is referred to as Rusleda). Nevertheless, there must been people living there a long time before that. Archaeologists uncovered a Gallo-Roman cemetery in 2009 , together with tracks of poles, a well, pot-holes and ditches.

Building: Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ten-Hemelopnemingkerk

The church 'Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ten-Hemelopneming' is located on the Markt. The first church on this site was built in the 9th century. The present church, in romanesque style, was built between 1100 - 1200.

Object: On the left hand side a Baroque pulpit can be seen, made by master sculptor Van Daele in 1735. On the sermon chair the Tetragrammaton is placed - the Hebrew script for God's name.
