Turnhout - Sint Pieterskerk

City: Turnhout is a city in the province of Antwerp. Turnhout, developed at the intersection of two major trade routes and received around 1212 urban rights from Henry I, Duke of Brabant. In the late Middle Ages Turnhout became a famous centre for weaving and the trade of bed linen. These industries were replaced in the 19th century by paper based trade and industry.Turnhout has been nicknamed the “city of playing cards”, a reference to Carta Mundi, the world's largest producer of playing cards in Europe. Today 40,765 inhabitants live in Turnhout.

 

Building: Sint Pieterskerk

You can find the Collegiant church of St. Peter at the ’Grote Markt’ (Grand Market), in the heart of Turnhout. It is the oldest church inTurnhout. The choir stalls and tower are from the 13th century. The interior of the church is a combination of several building styles.

 

Object: It is interesting that we can find the Tetragrammaton three times in the church.
