Nové Mesto nad Metuji- Holy Spirit church

City: Nové Mesto nad Metují is a city in the northern area of the Czech Republic (region Hradec Králové - district Náchod). Historical accounts mention that the area was already inhabited in the 7th and 8th Century. The city itself was founded on August 10th, 1501 by Jan Cerncický of Kácov. There are now approx. 10.180 residents.


Building: The first Gothic 'Holy Spirit-church' was built in the 13th Century. Over the years the church has been used by several different branches of Christianity. After first being used as a Catholic parish church, the church was used by Utraquists, New Utraquists, Catholics again, Hussits and then Catholics again. In 1815, the church was totally rebuilt.
