Object: The pictures shown
are of the Charles Bridge in Prague, above the beautiful river
Moldau (Vltava). This bridge was built in the year 1357. On
both sides of the bridge you can see a row of statues. One
statue, a crucifix, has shining Hebrew consonants - including
the Tetragrammaton. The text is: "Holy, Holy, Holy is
JHWH of hosts". The text can be found in the Bible in
Isaiah 6:3.
Why this text? A beautiful story is attached to it. The
inscription at the foot of the crucifix tells us about a Jew
who walked over the bridge in the year 1696. Evidently he
said something disrespectful about the crucifix. Because of
that, he had to appear before the Royal Court. He was fined
and the fine was to pay for the golden Hebrew consonants.
