Country: Finland is a country in Northern
Europe. The neighboring countries of Finland are Russia, Norway
and Sweden. The name Finland means ‘”fen land”,
a reference to the many fen lands of the country. Finland
is also known as "the land of a thousand lakes",
there are no fewer than 188,000 Lakes. Finland has not always
been independent. It was a part of the Swedish Empire from
1200 until 1809. In that year, 1809, Finland was conquered
by Russia. In 1917, Finland declared its independence. There
are today 5,250,275 people in residence (2009). Religiously:
81% claim to be Protestant. 17% are not religious.
