Aups - Saint Pancrace

City: Aups is a municipality in the South of France. It is located in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This place has had several names over the course of time: Oppidum de Alpibus, Castrum de Alpibus, Castrum de Almis, Alps and now Aups. This town is very old. There is an expression: "I would prefer first to be in Aups, and secondly in Rome". Aups has had its share of wars. A black page in its history was the massacre of the Huguenots where 30 people of Aups were slaughtered. In the 10th century Aups was destroyed by the Saracens, before they themselves were defeated at the Battle of Tourtour. Later in history Aups was at the centre of the uprising against Napoleon after his coup d ' état. During the Second World War Aups was a stronghold of revolt against the Germans.

Fortunately, the situation today is different. Aups' main industry is tourism. In addition other main sources of income are: the finding and trading of truffles, art crafts, agriculture and hunting and local crafts such as construction, bee-keeping and the production of olive oil.

Building: The collegial church Saint Pancrace was built from 1489 up to 1503 under the guidance of the British architect Broulhony.

Object: Within the church are 2 little doors with Hebrew signs. In both cases it looks like the tetragrammaton…
