Besançon - cathédrale Saint Jean

City: Besançon is a city in France in the region of Franche-Comté. The city, with its 116,000 inhabitants, has an impressive history. It is believed that there were Gaul tribes in the region around 1500 B.C. In 58 B.C. Julius Caesar used the city as a secure base in his war against the Suevi, a group of Germanic peoples.

Building: The Cathedral Saint-Jean of Besançon is located at the foot of Mount Saint-Étienne, behind the Porte Noire, a Gallo-Roman Triumphal arch. The first cathedral was built under Charlemagne, but it was only finished in the year of his death i.e.1814. There were major renovations in the 12th century (between 1127 and 1161) and again in the 18th century.

Object: God's name can be seen twice. The first time in a radiating triangle; the second time on an altar.
