Èze - Eglise Notre Dame de l'Assomption

City: Èze is a community situated on the French Mediterranean. It is located between Nice and Monaco. The history of habitation of this place goes back a long way. By 2000 BC, there was already a settlement around the mountain Bastide. In 1388 Èze fell under the control of the House of Savoy. Its approximately 3,000 inhabitants were called Ézasques. Turkish troops, under the command of Barbarossa, a Turkish pirate and an Ottoman Admiral, conquered the place in 1543. Louis XIV destroyed the outer walls in 1706 during the succession war against Spain. In 1860 the place became permanently placed under French rule, after a unanimous decision by the people.

Building: With grants of Duke Charles Emmanuel III this neoclassical Church was built as a replacement of the previous church. The architect was Antonio Spinelli. On 17 May 17, 1772 it was inaugurated.

Object: firstly, there are Hebrew script characters at the bottom of a painting. Although it was probably intented to depict the Tetragrammaton, it seems to be written "HHH". Secondly there are Hebrew script characters on the pulpit chair. This time God's name can be seen.
