Honfleur - Sainte Catherine

City: Honfleur is a city in Normandy, located at the mouth of the Seine.

The city was, over the course of history, called Hunefleth (1027), Hunefloth (1062), Honneflo (1198), Honflue (1246) and Honnefleu (15th century). The name 'fleur' ??is common in Normandy and means "stream, river that runs into the sea." The first official written mention of Honfleur was from Richard III, Duke of Normandy in 1027. Honfleur was an important transit port in the 12th century. Due to its geographical location at the mouth of the Seine, Honfleur was not only a fishing port but also an important port for the strategic defense of the Seine estuary.

The tourist attractions include the picturesque harbor, a marina port and larger docks which can accommodate cruise ships. In addition there is the 'Lieutenance' or former residence of the lieutenant of the king, two remaining salt attics called Greniers à sel (for fish salting), Le Vieux Bassin with its picturesque houses, the Rue des Lingots and the Pont de Normandy.

Building: The church of Sainte-Catherine, originating from 1450 and incorporating a bell tower which is separated from the main building, is the largest wooden church in France.

God’s name: It looks like Hebrew script but it is not exactly the Tetragrammaton. Artistic freedom or something else?
