Lyon - basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière

City: Lyon is a city in the East of France. The City developed where the Rhône and the Saône flow together. The history of the city goes back a long way. It was built in 43 BC by the Romans, led by Lucius Munatius Plancus. Its name then was Lugdunum. Even before the Romans developed it there was already a Celtic settlement here.

In Lyon there are many old buildings and bridges. It is for this reason that the historic part of Lyon was placed on the World Heritage list of the UNESCO in 1998. This city has no less than 472,400 inhabitants. In the suburbs there are 4,415,207 residents.


Building: Fourvière is a hill from which you get a great view of the city. The construction of the Basilica of Fourvière began in 1872. The architect was Pierre Bossan. The style has been influenced by Romanesque and Byzantine architecture.
