City: Lyon is a city in the East of
France. The City developed where the Rhône and the Saône
flow together. The history of the city goes back a long way.
It was built in 43 BC by the Romans, led by Lucius Munatius
Plancus. Its name then was Lugdunum. Even before the Romans
developed it there was already a Celtic settlement here.
In Lyon there are many old buildings and bridges. It
is for this reason that the historic part of Lyon was placed
on the World Heritage list of the UNESCO in 1998. This city
has no less than 472,400 inhabitants. In the suburbs there
are 4,415,207 residents.
