Perpignan - Palais de Justice

City: Perpignan is a city in the South of France, located near the Mediterranean Sea on the Spanish border. The city, with its 118,221 inhabitants, is located in the French part of Catalonia. In the suburbs of Perpignan there are more than 300,000 residents. In the past Perpignan belonged to the Kingdom of Majorca, in fact between 1278 to 1344 it was the capital. In the period from 1344 till 1493 the city was part of the principality of Catalonia. After the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659) Perpignan came under the jurisdiction of France.

 

Building: The ‘Palais de Justice’ was built between 1860 and 1865. It was inaugurated in 1866.

 

Object: In front of the entrance are two impressive statues. The statue on the left shows Moses with two stone tables, on which God's name is written.
