Vandenesse-en-Auxois - église Notre Dame de l'Assomption

City: French Vandenesse-en-Auxois can be found in the C'ôte d'Or, in the region of Burgundy. This village, located on the Canal de Bourgogne (channel of Burgundy), is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Greenery, water and rest are the words which are synonymous with the region. For example, there is a breathtaking view of the medieval Chateauneuf en Auxois from Vandenesse-en-Auxois . By the Gallo-Roman times there was already a settlement on this site. We can see evidence of this from, amongst other things, old Gallic coins of the first and second century. To give some statistics: the village area covers 11.25 km². In this area live 263 inhabitants (2007). The height of the village is between 342 meters and 480 meters.

Building: église Notre Dame de l'Assomption. This church can be found in the centre of the village. It was built at the end of the 13th century on the ruins of a Romanesque church of which there are still some remains. In the chapel on the right side are four plaques with engraved images. They are quite old: 1294, 1301, 1303 and 1347.

Object: here God's name can be found at the foot of some of the candlesticks. The name is written in the Hebrew, JHWH, in a triangle surrounded by a crown of bright cloud.
