Venasque - église Notre Dame

City: Located on a steep cliff, at the Valley of Nesque in the Mountains of Vaucluse, is Venasque one of the 26 most beautiful villages in France. The village is located 11 km southeast of Carpentras, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The picturesque village enjoys a Mediterranean climate and is loved by painters and artists because of its picturesque streets and quiet atmosphere.

The 980 inhabitants are called les Venasquais.

Building: the church of Notre Dame was built in the 12th century on the same site where there was previously a cathedral church. The chapels and the Bell Tower date from the 17th and 18th century.

Object: The altarpiece is from the 17th century. There is a triangle at the top where often the name of God is written. In the detail however it can be seen that in this incidence a number: 13717. is written. However, God's name can be seen on an altar, on the door of the Tabernacle.
