Korbach - St. Kilian-Kirche

City: Korbach is an old town in the Federal State of Hesse, Germany, more than 1000 years old. On the hill where the church can be found today, there was a Carolingian Imperial palace built in the year 800 . In 1188 the place was given city rights by the hand of Bishop Bernhard II von Ibbenbüren. It Soon developed as a centre of trade and crafts. Korbach numbers 24071 inhabitants (2009).

Building: The construction of the Kilian church started in the year 1335. First the choir stand was built and then the tower.

Object: On the right side of the tower hangs a sundial. A sundial is a hour hand, existing of a plate with the numbers 1 - 12, on which the time is pointed to by the shadow of a stylus. It would appear that this sundial is a copy from an original that is owned by the 'Korbacher Heimatmuseum'. We are pleased to see that God's name is written on the sundial.
