Mainz - St. Ignatzkirche

City: Mainz is the largest city of the German Federal State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The city lies on the left bank of the Rhine on the mouth of the River Main. The name of this place has been changed several times throughout history. The first permanent settlements were there at the time of the Celts. The Romans came and they made an army camp here, Mogontiacum. Around the army camp arose settlements for trade, resulting in the arrival of craftsmen. The city grew. In 782 Mainz was chosen to be the city of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese. Today there are 197,623 people living here .


Building: In the Kapuzinerstrasse in Mainz you can find the church St. Ignatzkerk, built between 1763 and 1774. The style in which the church is built is called Classicism.
