Marburg - St. Marienkirche

City: Marburg is a town in the German Federal State of Hesse. Marburg describes itself as a university city with history, a historic centre between the Lahn and the Castle, combined with academic flair and a scenic attractive environment. Tourism, culture and history have inspired each other from the 13th century onwards.

Building: The oldest evangelical parish church of Marburg, built in the gothic style, was dedicated to the 'Lieben Frauen Beatae Maria" on May 1, 1297. The design of the early-baroque altar, returning to the use of images, shows the connection to Luther's teachings.

Object: On the left hand side of the choir stall is God's name written in Hebrew on an image. Also the masoretic vowels are clearly placed. The pronunciation is 'Jehowah' or 'Jehovah'.
