Braunschweig Riddagshausen - Convent Church

City: Riddagshausen is mentioned for the first time as a place in a document of 1146. Henry the Lion (1129-1195), later known as the Duke of Saxon, donated the village and workers to the convent. The village existed for about two up to three hundred years beforehand. Today Riddagshausen is a quarter of Braunschweig.


Building: The convent of Riddagshausen was taken into use in 1145 by the Cistercians. The convent church dates back to 1275. Since the Reformation the convent was owned by the Evangelical Church.

 

Object: The baroque altar was made in the year 1735. At the top God's name is placed inside a shining triangle.
