Heidelberg - Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg

City: Heidelberg is a city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The city is situated on the river Neckar. The first time the city is mentioned in official documents was in the year 1196. From the Middle Ages up until the thirty-year's war, Heidelberg was the residence of Count Palatine, a Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire. The castle was his residence.

Gebouw: Hotel Ritter

"Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg" - this is the full name of this beautiful hotel. The architectural beauty and elegance of the renaissance building make the “Zum Ritter St. Georg” hotel the finest historical and most artistically valuable town house in Heidelberg.

The cloth dealer Carolus Belier and his wife Francina had it built in the year 1592. In the year 1681 it was mentioned as a guesthouse and was the only building to survive the many wars and fires that took place at Heidelberg. 300 years ago it was designated as an 'Inn for the better-class traveller". The present-day hotel has 37 comfortable rooms, with many beautiful provisions.

Object: In relation to the Divine name, the text outside towards the top of the building is notable. There we can see written: "Si Jehova non aedificet domum, Frusta laborant aedificantes eam - PS CXXVII". This is a Bible text written in Latin, (Psalm 127 verse 1) and translates into English as: "Unless Jehovah builds the house, it is in vain that its builders labour on it".
