Trier - St. Paulinkirche

City: Trier is boasted to be the oldest city of Germany. The city can be found on the right hand side of the river Mosel. There are about 101,000 inhabitants. The order to build the city was given by the Roman Emperor August in the year 16 B.C. Originally, the city was named Augusta Treverorum and was intended to be the capital city of the Roman province Belgica Prima.


Building: The church of St. Paulin is one of the most important buildings of the baroque art in the Rhineland. The church was built in the years 1732-1754 according to the plans of Balthasar Neumann. The interior of the church is decorated with Rococo stuccowork and painting on the ceiling. The name of God can be found in these impressive paintings.
