Firenze (Florence) - duomo Santa Maria del Fiore

City: Firenze is inItaly. It is the capital of the region of Tuscany and the province of Florence. The history of the city goes back to Julius Caesar. He built a settlement for retired soldiers here in 59 BC. In the course of time the city gained a reputation as a city of art, finance and as the most outstanding renaissance town of Italy. It was even for a certain period of time the capital of Italy – from 1865 until1870.

The city numbered 368,362 inhabitants in 2009.

 

Building: The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral church (Duomo) of Florence, Italy. The basilica is notable for its dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. It is the fourth biggest cathedral of Europe. The building of it started in 1296.
