City: Duddelange is one of the 116 communities
of the Great Duchy of Luxembourg. It is the fourth largest
city, having 18,000 inhabitants. In Luxembourg this place
is called Diddeleng.
Building: église St. Martin
The first stone of this neo-gothic church was laid in
1894. What is very special in this church are the beautiful
wall paintings made by the Benedictine monk Notker Heinrich
Becker. These paintings represent several biblical scenes.
For example the paintings shown here beneath depict - Samson
tearing up a lion (picture 3) and Joshua and Caleb coming
from exploring the Promised Land (picture 4).
Object: A painting that naturally comes
to our immediate notice is this one: the representation of
the priests of Israel carrying the 'Ark of the Covenant'.
Between two cherubims or angels is the shining name of God.
