Beetsterzwaag - Gereformeerde Kerk

City: Beetsterzwaag (Beetstersweach) is a lovely town on the Frisian landscape. Around the town are big forests of broadleaf and coniferous trees, sandy soil and heath lands. The village has about 4,000 inhabitants.

Building: Gereformeerde Kerk (Reformed Church)

Old pictures from the church...

Our investigations started with this post card. The text is clear; the Divine Name is at the top. The text on the bottom (of the picture) is: "the first stone was laid by Ds Fokkens at Boornbergum - Jan. 14, 1921. Ds H. Fokkens was a preacher at Boornbergum from 1917 till 1922. Looking at the pictures here below, it would appear that these photos are not from the church at Boorngerum; the detail on the front does not match.

Research (from a local website) learns that this must be the first building of the Dutch Reformed church of Beetsterzwaag. Beetsterzwaag is about 4,9 km from Boornbergum. By way of confirmation, the next picture was sent to us: (note: this church does not exist any longer).
