Noorbeek - St. Brigidakerk

City: Noorbeek is spoken of as the most traditional place in South Limburg. The village lies between the hills in the valley of the creek of Noor. The village was independent up to 1982. Now it is a part of the municipality Margraten. The first known written reference of the village was in 1144 in the ‘Annales Rodenses’ the oldest convent chronicle of the Netherlands.

Building: St. Brigidakerk

The history of the church Saint Brigida goes back a long way. Looking at the foundation of the tower gives rise to the belief that there must have been a church in Romanesque style around the year 1000. Another church, built from mudstone must have been built in the 13th century. There was a major reconstruction in gothic style around 1400 and there was a further major reconstruction in the 16th century.

Object: The name of God is found on top of the altar. The name, written in Hebrew, inside a radiating triangle, is surrounded by clouds.
