Sør-Fron - Church

City: Sør-fron is a municipality in the Norwegian Oppland. The village is located in the south of the country about 70 km from Lillehammer. The old Norwegian name was Frón. Fron means probably ‘Earth’ or ' land '. 'Sør’ means ‘south’, therefore, the southern part of that area. The village is situated in a beautiful natural area. Rondane National Park lies partly in Sør-fron. This park, the oldest in the country, has ten peaks above 2000 meters.

In Sør-fron is home to approximately 3,200 people.

 

Building: The church is from the year 1787. Amongst the remarkable features of the church, the visitor can note at the entrance the Divine Name in a triangle. The Name is not written as the Tetragrammaton but in the Latin form 'Iehova'.
