Country: Peru is a country
on the West coast of South America, located on the Pacific
Ocean. Its neighbouring countries are Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia
and Chile. Peru is primarily known as the home of the Inca
Empire. The Spaniards came in 1572, and they ruled over the
country up until 1821. Peru boasts a variety of landscapes.
For example, there are tropical rainforests, the coastal zone
and The Sierra, the area between the coast and the jungle.
40% of the population live in this latter area. The River
Amazon has its source in the Peruvian Andes towards northern
Brazil.
Peru numbers (2009) 29,546,963 inhabitants, of which
45% are Native Indians. Spanish is the official language.
Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion with 81% of the
population being adherents.
