Orava - Castle

City: Orava is not really a city but is in fact a region. This region is located in the north of Slovakia and the South of Poland. The river Orava runs straight through the area. The river is 60.9 km long.

Building: In Slovakia there are many castles. One of the most striking of these is the castle in Orava, built on a rock 112 meters high. The first reference to the castle was in the year 1267. In 1556 the castle came into the possession of the Thurzó family. In 1370 the castle became the center of the province of Árva, a province of the Hungarian Kingdom. KAround 1474 King Matthias Corvinus Hunyadi gave the command to build an inner square and residential wing.
