“Between the extended fields on the northeastern side
and the river Sava in the south west lies the quiet city of
Radovljica. Here you find no luxurious hotels or expensive shops
nor heavy transport. Instead we find welcoming people in a quiet
environment.” - this is the description found on the website
www.radovlijica.si concerning this attractive place. It is also
mentioned that the city was first named in a charter of 1296.
There was clearly a medieval market place here by 1343.
Radovljica is situated in the north east
of Slovenia, in the region of Gorensjka. The city consists of
52 villages, giving a combined population of 18,349 inhabitants.
Building: The Cerkev Sv.
Petra ( Saint Peter Church) was built in 1300 in Romanesque
style and lies in the old town centre of Radovljica. It was
rebuilt and added to in 1453.
God’s name: The
divine name is beautifully placed on top of a tabernacle, at
the front of the church on the left side.
