La Orotava (Tenerife) - Nuestra Señora de la Conceptión

City: La Orotava is a small town on the northern coast of Tenerife, in Orotava Valley. There is a beautiful view from the top of volcano El - Teide, with its 3,718 meters the highest place on the Canary Islands. On the other hand, the city offers a wonderful panorama of the Atlantic Ocean. The city was built centuries ago by Spanish settlers, arriving after Spanish troops had taken Tenerife. Inside the city you can find authentic 'Canarian' houses with their typical wooden balconies, named by inhabitants “Casa de los Balcones”. The inner city, with its very old church square has been designated an official historical site.

Building: The oldest part of the city is built around a striking church with two towers. The church, the Nuestra Señora de la Conceptión, was built originally at the beginning of the 16th century. The current Church was built between 1768 - 1788.

Object: Within the Church we can see God's name, written in Hebrew characters in the form of the Tetragrammaton.
