Country: Suriname is a country on the
North-East coast of South America. The country lies on the
Atlantic Ocean and shares its borders with French Guiana,
Guyana (formerly British Guiana), and Brazil. Up to the 25th
November 1975 Suriname belonged to the Netherlands.
The scenery of Suriname is characterised by jungle, mountain
ranges, rivers, marshes and woodland. The vast majority of
Suriname is covered with jungle. This jungle forms part of
the Amazon rainforest, the largest tropical rainforest in
the world.
481,267 people are living in Suriname (2009). 40.7% of
them claim to be Christian, 19.9% Hindu and 13.5 % Muslim.
