City: Helsingborg is a city in the south
of Sweden, lying in the province of Skåne län on
the west coast. The city is today one of the oldest cities
in Sweden. There were people living here by the end of the
9th century. The first official mention of the city was in
a charter dated May 21, 1085. This was a charter of the Danish
King Canute IV. It is worth noting that this city belonged
to Denmark until the Danish Swedish War of 1657-1658, it was
transferred to Sweden under the Peace Treaty of Roskilde.
Today Helsingborg is an important regional centre of
trade, transport and business, due to the fact that it is
the second largest port of the country. There are 95,444 people
(2008) living in the city .
Bldg.: The Sankta Maria kyrka is the
oldest church in Helsingborg. The first church on this site,
built in the Romanesque style, was built in the 12th century.
In the 15th century this church was replaced by a Gothic church.
