Jonstorp - St. Olaf Kyrka

City: The village of Jonstorp is found in the south of Sweden, an agreeable village frequently visited by tourists. This municipality is in Skalder bay, on the Kattegat (the sea area between Sweden and Denmark). The population comprises approximately 1800 people.

Building: The Romanesque church (kyrka) of Saint Olaf was built in the years 1100 - 1200. As with so many other churches, this one was rebuilt on different occasions resulting in a mixture of old styles.

Object: The impressive church chair mentioned below was built during the reign of Christian IV. Christian IV was the King of Sweden and Denmark from 1588 up to 1648. His royal motto ‘Regna firmat pietas’ (‘Piety strengthens the realm’) was placed on the pulpit. God’s name is written on a plaque below. Here it is written: "JEHOVAH EST PASTOR MEUS" - Translated: “Jehovah is my shepherd”.
