Place: The largest lake in Sweden is
lake Vänern with a surface area of no less than 5,655
km ²! With its coast line of approximately 2,000 km it
is the third largest lake in Europe. In the lake there are
35 different types of fish, besides the largest type, the
European smelt, and also salmon. The average depth of water
is 26 meters; the deepest point being 106 meters. The views
and banks around the lake are very beautiful. Many tourists
vist annually to enjoy flora and fauna.
The largest islands in the lake are Torsö, Kållandsö
and Hammerö. The island of Kållandsö, administratively
belonging to the Swedish city Lidköping, has a surface
are of 56.78 km ².
Building: The building which we are
showing is Läckö slott or castle Läckö.
This castle lies on the banks of the island of Kållandsö.
Its history goes back to the year 1298 when Bishop Brynolf
Algotson raised a stronghold here. This was taken in the 14th
century, and then a fire in 1470 destroyed it. In 1478 Bishop
Brynolf Gerlachsson subsequently built a castle, with two
corner towers. After the coming of the reformation King Gustav
Vasa took possession of the beautiful castle. Over time it
was owned by many different people. One important one to mention
was Earl Jakob De la Gardie. He carried out a vast renovation,
which was later continued by his son .
God’s name : The church of the
castle was built between 1655 and 1661 by Earl Magnus Gabriel
De la Gardie. In the church there are some very old paintings.
In the front on the left are two paintings with Gods ‘name
in Hebrew.
