Stockholm - St. Nikolai kyrka

City: Stockholm is the capital city of Sweden and has no less than 814,418 inhabitants (2009). The city has been described as the cultural, political and economic centre of Sweden since the 13th century.


Building: The Storkyrkan (large church) or Saint Nikolai kyrka (Saint Nicolas church) is the oldest church in Stockholm. This Church is mentioned in writings as early as 1279. The church, which since 1942 served as a cathedral, was built in the neighbourhood of the Royal palace. In 1527, the church became Lutheran-Protestant .
